These Italian designer buttons are made in the artisanal style that Italy is known for.
In this case, polyester resin is shaped and polished into an intricate shape; a central curved rectangle is polished, with hand carved organic shapes on either side. Colours are over-dyed; black colour is pigment dyed, leaving grey hand carved ends. Luxurious and absolutely stunning.
Like most irregular buttons, the buttonhole size is determined from the centre to the furthest edge and allowing for the thickness of the button.
